My gosh it has gone fast! This past week has been so hectic, exciting, stressful, mind boggling, but i'm so glad we have made it through the first week of uni and being a student doctor! Well the student doctor we were told to call ourselves today in a lecture of foundations of clinical practice for when we communicate with people or patients for communication practice.

I am back home for the weekend for my birthday which is tomorrow! Sweet 19 lol they all sound special :) it feels like i haven't left actually, like the whole past two weeks were a blurr, another life i was living, but things are different, i feel different, and when i look at my room and now see medicine books i have lugged back home i know it wasn't a dream but a new reality and start of a new chapter of life. I feel different also as though i have changed. Being in trinity and at uni you take on the most you have ever taken on in terms of your own development and independence, not to mention meeting many awesome people i now call my friends which i find bring out a new part of me i love which i wont lose. They say living at college and going to uni is more than study and a graduation of a degree, its the study and application of all areas of your life!

Going back to orientation, the tuesday morning we were to head out for earth rehabilitation planting trees or shrubs for the community. I would of loved to be part of it but we had medicine meetings and a gathering of all rural students - 40 overall which is the most rural medical students they have ever taken in! We learnt about help such as uniskills who run tutorials for our learning, but the most exciting part was i was pulled aside and awarded a Medical rural bonded scholarship! I was really excited to actually get one! its going to be such a relief not having to worry about work during uni weeks or how on earth i would pay for college or hecs! Such a relief... of course being in a rural area for 6 continuous years is a big commitment, but i love smaller communities, and if my only worry is my thought of 'what if' well if i live like that and go by waiting to see what happens then i will not live at all, its definately worth it. Walking back we talked to a girl from busselton living in perth called sam who was awarded one too, her excitement reassured mine!

After heading back for lunch we had a slow afternoon backed up in the computer room at trinity as a mob of internet hungry students waiting one by one to get our laptops connected to the internet, an essential to uni life! We soon learned all our communication is mainly done on student emails and a sit known as webCT. This site contains all our information on lectures and assessments and any updates we need to know, with out it we are basically lost or as i was in the first few days, stressed!

That followed with once again a meeting with the heads talk, tea and getting dolled up for the doomsday party! Underagers were off to Q-zar in freo, for the resst of us it was a party at the guild tavern dressed up in white and fluoro colours celebrating.. the end of the world? lol it was so much fun! I'd say it was my favourite party the whole week, we danced, took photo's, danced, had some drinks... lemon lime bitters in my case haha for 3 dollars! Good uni student price :) I headed back alittle earlier with lexi, it would have finished at 12 but the tiredness overcame all too soon and with more parties to come i would rather save my energy to go to all than blow it all on one!

Wednesday morning was a relax time and so glad for it! I spent the morning sorting myself out in my room preparing for uni and went over to emma's room to watch ladette to ladies. After lunch we split into boys and girls. Us girls headed off into the city for a scavenger hunt! In groups of 5 we were tied together and had an hour to hunt for a list of things we were given. It was lots of fun! Some tasks included the middle person wearing a white shirt and getting as much boys numbers as they could on the shirt, bonus poinys if you have a photo of a guy with his shirt off and even more if he is rated as hot, but suprisingly not many guys were willing to have the photo! it was reassuring actually and helped move my stereotype of city guys being cocky even if it is only a minority who are lol. We also had to find how many kangaroos are at stirling gardens, what train runs on a certain line, what the third smoothie is in boost juice, what the price of frogs and banana's are at woolies and find and buy as many things as we can green with 5 dollars. We found cups, hair clips and hair ties and beans! We also had pictures wearing a workers hat and with a policeman and hunted down res club members for bonus points. We finished with an ice cream at mcdonalds and made our way back to trinity and had a group photo. The only thing was we couldn't see the guys. They had been playing lazers around the campus but where were they now? We had suspicions, last time we had a photo we got drenched! sure enough, on the second photo all the boys launched water balloons and buckets of water off the balconies and drenched us head to foot! The girls screams could have been heard a mile away but it was all so well planned and the fact we couldn't see over 50 guys hidden with water buckets.. they had to be congratulated! But be warned boys, we will get you back!

Fun, games and serious

After surviving the first night at trinity adapting to college, we were welcomed to a scrumptious breakfast but knowing i do love my food, i kept to the loved cereal and fruit saving the hot breakfast for the odd treat. We made our way over to the oak lawn at uwa to be sorted into our faculties and taken around the campus in smaller groups on a sort of hunt to answer quiz questions while taking a look at our main faculty areas. I learnt while uwa looks fairly straight forward with its main biuldings, there are so many other theatres and rooms in the bigger buildings which will make the first and probably second week harder to find the right rooms. I love the campus though! It has a unique 'europe' feel but in WA. The gardens are beautiful! Everytime i walk through uwa i know i have made the right decision to study here! The scenery will help to calm any stresses the days can bring, and definately not to forget the great facilities to learn here recognised through out the world! well uwa is the only campus in wa which has undergraduate medicine, but if every other uni in australia did, i would still choose uwa!

As it turned out the uni mentors guiding us the answer the questions were answering all the questions for us but i think we were all too mesmorised by studying the campus! The tour was finished with a bbq sausage sizzle at the guild village and we made our way back to trinity. Although it may look further, it actually only takes 5-10 minutes at the most to walk to the guild village from trinity which is halfway through campus, we live right on the edge!

That afternoon we had a quiet time to recouperate ourselves some more in our rooms, before we attended another meeting with the heads of trinity session.

Emma, Verity and I made our way to QEII at sir Charles Gardiner Hospital just down the road from trinity where we were to meet our 2nd year medicine mentors. I can't believe i came across having pip for mine by utter chance! It was quite funny, after being advised to contact pip from australind we couldn't get hold of each other, when she happened to pick me as a mentee not knowing who i was we thought wow that is so strange! Moments like that no matter how bizare are always comforting, its like a proof that there is someone up there watching you and giving you faith in things happening as though its a sign to know that you are on the right track no matter how scary it may seem.

We had a great talk about all the questions i had and experiences pip has had finishing her first year of medicine. I am excited but scared, once i get into the swing of things and know i can apply myself to studyong again and know i can handle what i'm putting myself into i know being scared will turn into confidence!

Back at trinity we were faced with a challenging quiz night! After each of the four rounds of australian, entertainment and sporting questions one member of each table was to participate in a challenge. These ranged from digging your face in a bowl of whipped cream to find a piece of chewing gum and the first one to chew it and blow a bubble wins, spoon feeding another person jelly blindfolded (which i happily did feeding Rosie jelly up the nose!), singing a song with lyrics from the books such as poetry of human anatomy like spicks and specs to guess the song, eating 2 dry wheatbix the tagging another member to skull 2l of milk! (i ate the wheatbix but rosie almost finished the milk until itcame back up again!) and waxing guys legs to see how much hair could be taken off in minute... i almost felt sorry for them seeing their faces! Overall it was a very fun night :)

I'll leave tuesday for next time, tonight we're going out to the uwa giuld tavern for our rubix cube party! Hopefully i'll last the night, after a big week and adventure world today i don't know i can last til midnight! Good thing i ate some chocolate :D

Beginning of the journey

Soon the days will be far to many to count! Being in a course which is allocated 6 exciting years before graduation i have a big journey ahead each day of the 2141 days - the end of 2014 - that i have to become a doctor will be both challenging and exciting!

Trinity college, one of the 5 colleges of the university of western australia is in my and all other residents opinions the greatest and certainly has the mightiest reputation of all! From the very start all new residents were welcomed to a group of awesome 2nd right to 6th year resident organisers who showed us the ropes and helped us break the ice between not knowing who each other was. The one thing to remember is that we are all in the same boat therefore we all have something in common already!

Our first week at college is orientation week! We are the fallout members of the vault. The outside world is full of poisionous radiation, we are the only survivers kept alive in trinity, and if the radiation alarm sounds, we must run to the nearest person/people in sight and hug them for our life before the army of water pistoled radiator detectors squirt us clean! Which they tend to do anyway :)

Our first day in the vault found us taking on a variety of ice breaker games. From sitting on each other in a circle, passing lifesavers in toothpicks in our mouths, jumping on guys in more ways than one as musical chairs and even dancing our trinity dance, i would of driven up from bunbury just to be involved for the day!

That sunday night we ceaned ourselves up for a round of speed dating. Even though some put on a disguise to introduce their creative side, it was a great and entertaining way to meet a whole new bunch of awesome people!

The food at trinity is simply too good. Its day 5 at trinity and already i'm making myself be warey of the 'fresher 5' kilos that has been rumoured to come upon new residents. Basicalyy your three meals a day have at least a choice of 2 usually 3 dishes. Breakfast has hot food, eggs, bacon, pancakes, beans then there's the cereals, friut and yoghurt or the toasts, muffins and crumpets! And thats just breakfast! Good thing uni and college sports start soon thats all i can say. But really i am itching to get involved in it all! Medicine first but i am a big believer that hard study must be accompanied with hard, easy, fast, slow, all types of sport! It's freedom, takes away your stresses and makes you feel 100% better!

I love my room, up on the top floor of Durrow wing i have a great view although it can get pretty hot in summer, but the wooden walls remind me of the country and give a 'homey' feeling, even with a large pet spider i hope has ventured through the roof to be anothers friend. There is still more decorating to be done, but for now it still fits really nicely :)

The first night was hard to adapt to as expected, not to mention with so much happening your mind doesn't know whether to turn off or be anxiously excited! But being my 5th night tonight and after two late night parties in a row i am well ready for bed and hopefully a nice run in the morning tp start off day 6 of college! Hopefully this will help with what i miss telling you the times i miss your calls. I will catch up on what we have done mum, dad, nic and sarah, promise :)

Miss you all
xx
