Week break number 2

Laugh With Health CoverThis week break was more enjoyable than the last, and now it is almost over again. I feel like i have finally caught up on some much needed sleep and not waking up at 5.30/6am has been bliss :) It has been a good week at home with lots of cooking - macaroons, pumpkin soup, 2 lots of muffins, chicken penne and brownies, swimming, spending way too much at the health food shop! But mum has introduced me to organic pepita seeds and i found a spirulina slice which is yum! I had a little splurge and bought a book called 'Laugh with Health' which as it describes is an ultimate guide to eating healthy and gives information on the benefits of certain foods and when they are good for the different systems of the body, i can't wait to read more!

Mum and I had a short trip to Busselton to visit nan and pop for afternoon tea. It turned into more of an x-ray session as they showed me all their latest ones for shoulder and spine issues but afterwards was great to just chat with them over tea and scones and a few macaroons :) I was excited being there for my future 'hood' for 2013! Mum and i were sussing out the coffee shops, bike paths, markets, the recreation centre and of course the hospital and general practice's i will be working in next year!! I just wish i could have driven past my future house but have no idea where it is yet. Mum traced down our family heritage which i want to remember.
My family blood...
Nan - Scottish and West Indian
Pop - Estonian
Pop and Nan Esperance - English

X-rays... i know what i'm looking at :P
I had a lovely catch up with a friend from school, it was great to see her with her quite new little family of nearly 2 years and the other 3 months old. She is such a wonderful mum you can see it right away! It makes me look forward to the years ahead when i can have my own family one day, i almost wish it could come sooner but i have chosen the path of university first, one day :) I wish we could catch up more though i miss seeing her! I also had a catch up session with my Uni mentor/doctor which was great to talk through challenges and progress throughout our first year in the hospitals so far. I find my mentor gives great feedback and valuable advice particularly on a balanced lifestyle and not all study and is very encouraging to me for the future which is always a positive lift :)
I found this picture of us a few years ago one Australia Day maybe 2008? i couldn't resist!
Mum and I watched the movie Julie and Julia about a girl in her 30's who challenges herself to cook all the recipes in a French cook book in a year, it is a funny and inspiring movie we both really like it! Of course there was some research study and a discussion section to write which was due on Friday and another relief to have that done. I was lucky to be home for Bella and Lucy's 8th birthday and while Bella had a macaroon, Lucy had a 5 minute mud brownie cooked in the microwave, i think they both had a nice day! :) I look forward to having a trip to the beach with them tomorrow morning before i head back to Perth.

And now it is time to head back to Perth to start our last rotation for this year - 8 weeks of Surgery. I hope it goes well and i keep on top of things, i think it is going to be a very hectic last rotation as so many other events are on at this time of year not to mention i have a week off for uni games so need to get all my assignments done! Then OSCE's and exams.... i think i'll take it week by week first but better keep that study in mind. For now i will enjoy my last relaxing night home by the fire for a while with a hot drink of cacao and a delicacy of orange and creme brulee lindt chocolate all the way from Switzerland!
