This recipe comes from a blog my sister Nicole has gotten me onto! It is called Loving fit and follows an amazingly fit young lady who sets her own workouts mainly using her own body. She is also very big on her nutrition and has some good recipes and nutritional advice :) Fresh protein bars without the additives and artificial additions in the supermarket types!
The Ingredients:
- 1 cup Old Fashioned Oats (this is the only kind of oats you should purchase, don’t buy the quick 1 minutes oats because they are heavily processed).
- Raw Almonds – 1 cup
- Flax seeds – a handfull (i have pepitas and pumkpin seeds more readily available instead)
- 2 Organic Eggs
- 2 Large Organic Apples
- 1 1/2 cups Frozen Dark Cherries (or any berries)
- Vanilla Whey Protein Isolate – 2 scoops (or whatever protein powder you have)
- Cashew Nuts – 2 handfulls
To make the flower mix the oats, raw almonds and flax seeds in the blender.
Grate the apples and crush the cashews, you can use your hand to crush the cashews. Add all of the ingredients into the mixing bowl.
Now, mix everything very well with your hands, until you made the dough.
Take it out of the bowl and spread it on a baking pan, I also use a baking sheet.
Pre-heat your stove for 350 degrees. Bake for 30-35 minutes, take it out and let it cool off. Cut it into the bar shapes and enjoy it with a glass of Unsweetened Almond Milk in the morning, or whenever you like
Interestingly she did the sugar challenge for a week only and focused on foods to avoid for one week:
- Processed Sugars of any kind which include cakes, cookies, candies, chocolate, ice-cream, soda etc.
- Maple Syrup
- Honey
- Especially Artificial Sugars ( you should avoid these for life )
- Any food produce that has over 5 g of sugar per serving ( breads, pastas etc )
Sugars allowed during the challenge:
- 2 servings of fruit of your choice per day – very humble per sa
- Any food produce that has less than 5 g of sugars per serving
Even this idea of a one week sugar challenge is a good idea as a 'sugar detox' or to get into good habits and have sugars as treats :)
